It’s taken a while for Rakaa Iriscience of Dilated Peoples to drop his solo debut, but I have a feeling it’s going to be worth the wait. On what might possibly be most anticipated cut off the album, Rakaa recruits his Dilated brethren, Evidence, the usual affiliate of Defari, and fellow California native Fashawn to churn out an underground, West Coast gem. Needless to say Alchemist delivers a banger for his longtime-collaborators while Rakaa makes sure to steal the show. Fashawn is easily one of my favorite emcees going today; he definitely has a bright future ahead of him. Rakaa’s debut, Crown of Thorns, drops July 20th and features production from The Alchemist, DJ Honda, El-P, Evidence, Exile and way more…no donzo!
